Youth Division

Designed for teens and tweens who want to experience the fitness benefits, artistic expression, and enjoyment of ballet and other forms of dance.

*If you are taking 2 or more classes per week, tuition may be paid in two installments (additional installment fee added).The first installment is due upon registration and the second is due October 15, 2010.
 
 

YOUTH BALLET

 

BALLET I (Ages 8 and up)

This class is designed for older children who are new, or relatively new, to ballet. Students will be taught basic ballet positions, terminology and vocabulary. The class will begin with basic barre work and progress to center floor exercises. Stretching and strengthening sequences will also be taught for home practice. Students interested in more intensive study may audition for the Junior Division on the advice of the instructor.

BALLET II - III (Ages 10 and up)  Performance Class
An elementary ballet class for dancers who have completed at least a year of ballet training. The class will include a full study of barre work, center practice and allegro combinations. Stretching and strengthening sequences will also be taught for home practice to aid improvement. Students will also learn choreography that will be presented at the February 6th    2010 “Performance Afternoon. ” Students interested in more intensive study may audition for the Junior Division on the advice of the instructor.

A complete ballet class for students who have completed at least two years of ballet training. The class will include a full study of barre work, center practice, turns and allegro combinations. YOUTH TAP

Technique taught is classic style. Technique and form along with good posture are emphasized. Routines are developed throughout the semester. Tap students are invited to participate in the annual Shuffle Exchange held on the first Sunday in February.

YOUTH MODERN

 
Contemporary modern dance developed as a response to the restrictions of the classical ballet vocabulary.
 
Our program teaches modern technique based on the styles of Graham, Cunningham, Taylor and Horton. Exploring freedom of movement and developing self-expression are an integral part of this curriculum. Students dance bare foot and learn fundamentals of technique designed to increase strength and flexibility and to develop rhythmic sensitivity.

BOYS ONLY!

There’s a reason football and basketball players take dance class – to increase strength, flexibility, coordination and quick footwork.
 
In addition to these “boys only” classes listed below, boys are also encouraged to enroll in any of  age and/or level appropriate classes. Significant scholarships are available. Please contact nwoods@BalletNova.org for information.
 
Boys Ballet and Strengthening (Ages 9 and up)
Taught by Mr. Paul Wegner – this ballet class is designed for boys only, and will incorporate barre and center work together with strengthening exercises and cross training. Boys taking this class are encouraged to take additional classes to speed progress.
