Dance Kaleidoscope! Performing Arts Camp


June 26-30, 8:30 am-4:30 pm 

Ages 7-9 or 10-12 

Tuition: $540; Early-Bird Discount*: $515

After Care until 5:30 available for $85

Daily classes include voice and dance for musical theater plus modern, jazz, tap, acting, music, improvisation, yoga, and more! There will also be a special trip to the beach!

The dancers will learn and use their sewing skills to participate in making a quilt for Ronald McDonald House and enjoy many age-appropriate sewing and craft activities.

These workshops provide a wonderful opportunity for young artists to explore different ways of expression and creativity in addition to learning team building skills and group interaction. There will be a musical theater presentation for parents at the end of the session.

The curriculum includes classes in Classical Ballet, Flamenco, Modern Dance, Hip Hop, Jazz, and Musical Theatre (including singing and dancing)!

The camp gives young dancers an opportunity to explore different dance styles in addition to enhancing their ballet technique. Repertoire from a well-known classical story ballet will be adapted to students’ level plus choreography from the other dance styles will be performed on the final afternoon. 


 Ruby Dance Camp 


Peter and the Wolf

The curriculum includes classes in Classical Ballet, Modern Dance, Character, Hip Hop, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre Singing and Dancing, and more!

Students will also have an opportunity to work on craft projects. Classical repertoire from a well-known story ballet will be adapted to students’ level plus choreography from the other dance styles will be performed on the final afternoon.


 Beyond Ballet!


August 14-18, 10:00-4:00 pm 

Ages 9-12

Tuition: $390; Early-Bird Discount*: $360

Summer is the time to step-out and explore. This is the perfect opportunity for young dancers to learn different styles that will enhance their classical technique, and develop coordination and movement skills.

Classes in Modern, Hip Hop, Tap, Theater Dance, and Jazz will be offered! At least 1 year of dance experience is required.


Ballet Intensive Study


July 5 - August 5, 10:00 am-4:30 pm

Tuition: $1,790 (or $400 per week**)

This rigorous program prepares intermediate and advanced aspirants for the ballet/dance environment of today.

A premium is placed on exquisite--unencumbered-- classical training and artistic development along with authentic training in allied dance styles. The environment is one of high expectations and challenging curriculum in a nurturing atmosphere. Female students must be on pointe.

Daily Classical Ballet technique and Pointe/Men's classes are complimented by Modern Dance (Graham-based), Variations, Contemporary, Hip Hop, African and conditioning. Hands-on workshops/seminars on anatomy, injury prevention, nutrition, ballet history and career navigation round out the curriculum. Acclaimed international guest faculty are an integral part of this program.

Students are encouraged to take as many weeks as possible to gain the most benefit - however weekly enrollment is permitted.

**Weekly tuition must be paid in full prior to the start date of the week attending. Registrations received at the beginning of a session after it starts will incur an additional $25 registration fee. No pro-rated or partial options are available except week of 7/5 for holiday closure.

Contemporary Ballet Studio Company

August 7-18, 10:00 am-4:30 pm

Designed for the serious intermediate and advanced ballet student, this program immerses students in the rigor and daily life of a 21st century professional dancer.

From company class every morning to learning challenging classical and contemporary repertoire, to being part of the creation of an original ballet, this is a fast-paced and rewarding real-world experience for those seeking to push to the next level of artistry.

The program culminates with a full-scale public performance in BalletNova's state-of-the-art Fredgen Theater. Students have the opportunity to work with acclaimed international guest faculty and choreographers. Visiting students should contact the studio, for audition information. 

Guest Artists

Dionne D. Figgins began her career as a member of the Dance Theatre of Harlem, under the direction of Arthur Mitchell, dancing lead roles in Serenade, Four Temperaments, Agon, and Concerto Baroccol, all by George Balanchine. She has also appeared as a guest artist with Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Broadway credits include Hot Feet, Memphis, Leap of Faith, and Motown The Musical. Regional credits include Sophisticated Ladies, The Wiz, Ray Charles Live, Smokey Joe's Cafe, Trip of Love, and Chicago. She is the co-founder of Broadway Serves, a non-profit organization whos mission is to connect theater professionals to community service opportunities locally, nationally, and abroad. She can also be seen playing Yasmine on the Starz drama Flesh and Bone. She is a proud member of AEA and SAG-AFTRA.

Elizabeth Gaither began her earlier ballet studies with her mother, Gloria Gaither in Miami Florida. She then continued her ballet training at the Houston Ballet Academy, joining Houston Ballet Company at the age of 15. After dancing with Houston Ballet for 5 seasons Ms. Gaither joined American Ballet Theatre where she danced for eight years. She then joined The Washington Ballet as Principal Dancer. Ms. Gaither performed numerous leading roles in ballet such as: Giselle, Fancy Free, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, La Bayadere; George Balanchine’s Theme and Variations, Symphony Concertante, Symphony in C and Serenade; Sir Frederick Ashton's The Dream, Forsythe's In the Middle Somewhat Elevated; Jerome Robbins' In the Night; Nacho Duato's Na Floresta; Christopher Wheeldon's Morphoses and Edwaard Liang's Wunderland to name a few. She has been in the PBS American Ballet Theatre filmings of Le Corsaire and Sir Frederick Aston's The Dream as well as appeared in the movie Center Stage. Since her retirement from the stage, Elizabeth has been teaching and coaching students as well as professional dancers. “There is no greater reward then to be able to give back to the world of ballet and it's striving artists and help them on their journey.”

Oscar Hawkins is a native of Brandywine, Maryland. He has danced with Kirov Ballet Company II, Ballet International, Tulsa Ballet, Deutsche Opera, Dance Theatre of Harlem, Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, Spoleto Festival Ballet and performed leading roles in Giselle, Swan Lake, Paquita, Esmerelda, The Nutcracker, Don Quixote, Le Corsaire, Veneian Carnival, Alberto Alonzo's Carmen, Jeffrey Holder's Douglas and Troy Games, George Balanchine's Four Temperments and Prodigal Son, Vladamir Anguelov's Forte, Alonso King's Signs and Wonders and Dennis Nahats's A Midsummer Night Dream and Go Daddy O. Mr. Hawkins has performed in Las Vegas with Cirque Du Soleil's Mystère, lead act with Belle Et Foux in Berlin, Germany and worked with Hinton Battle as a character dancer in the film The Great Oberver. Mr. Hawkins is currently the Artistic Director of Ballet Arts Academy, Director of Dance for Kirov Academy of Ballet's Outreah program and Creator/Director of The Oscar Talentshowcase Competition.

Malcolm Burn is a native New Zealander in his 28th year on the artistic staff of Richmond Ballet. During is 25-year dancing career, he performed leading roles in the standard classic repertory, numerous creations of contemporary ballet and partnered such noted ballerinas as Galina Samsova, Eva Evdokimova, Merle Park, Margaret Barbieri, and Patricia Ruanne. Prior to his coming to Richmond Ballet as principal dancer, Mr. Burn was the founding director of Ballet Arizona. He has performed with the London Festival Ballet, and was a principal dancer with The Royal New Zealand Ballet, The National Ballet of Zimbabwe, Ballet West and P.A.C.T. Ballet in South Africa, hwere he wone the Ivan Soloman Award for Best Male Dancer in 1973, 1976 and 1980. Mr. Burn's choreographic works for Richmond Ballet include Romeo and Juliet, The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, A Tribute, Classical Symphony, Faces, Walpurgis Nacht, Pas Glazunov and Complete Trust.

Young Children Half-Day Camps


Join us for one of our fun-filled half-day camps for young children! Each camp will include dance, crafts, games, and stories reflecting the camp theme.  

During the dance portion, campers will enjoy exercises that improve gross motor skills and introduce basic ballet steps and terminology.  The dancers will also learn short pieces of choreography and explore storytelling through dance.

During daily craft activities, they will create costume pieces and props to use while they dance.  At the end of the week, campers will share what they have learned in a short performance for their families.

 Under the Sea 

June 26-30, 9:00 am-12:00 pm
Ages 4.5-6

Campers will escape into the world of the little mermaid and her undersea friends.  Kick start summer by diving in and exploring the depths of the ocean through dance!

 Magic Toy Factory

August 7-11, 9:00 am-12:00 pm

Ages 4.5-6
Imagine what happens when the factory is closed and the toys come to life.  Campers will explore movement as music box dancers, robots, and a lively menagerie of stuffed toys.

 Outer Space Adventure 

August 14-18, 9:00 am-12:00 pm

Ages 4.5-6
Campers will dance their way through the solar system and beyond!  On a rocket ship powered by pure imagination, they will stargaze, travel through space, and meet friendly aliens. 

Tuition: $250 (includes $10 craft fee); Early-Bird Discount*: $225  

Adult Summer Intensive 

August 17-20, 10:00 am-4:00 pm

Tuition: $490

(OR pick 2 days - Thursday/Friday or Saturday/Sunday - for $275)

Pre-registration required by August 7th.

Ages 18+, for Adult Dancer Levels Advanced Beginning to Intermediate 

Morning classes include pilates and warm-up followed by ballet technique, variations, pointe (for beginners and experienced), modern, jazz, contemporary, conditioning and more! More detailed information coming soon!

 *Early-Bird Discounts are for full workshops only. Must be paid in full by March 31st. 
- All dancers in BalletNova Summer Camps and Intensive Workshops must provide their own lunch and snacks. 
- Payment is not refundable unless BalletNova cancels a class or workshop.
- BalletNova Center for Dance is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
- Registration and payment for all workshops MUST be received 14 days prior to the first day.
- Camps and workshops with low enrollment may be cancelled prior to the start date.
- A $100 non-refundable deposit for all June and July programs is due by 6/15 and for all August programs by 7/15.
