THE FREDGREN STUDIO THEATRE.   Together with her husband Ken, Kathryn Fredgren founded the Arlington Center for Dance and The Center Dance Company in 1981 (now known as BalletNova Center for Dance).  Kathryn was known as an extraordinary and inspiring teacher, and created a dance training center highly respected throughout the Washington DC region.  Her approach toward the arts as a way to improve our world, and her attitude that you have to train the whole person not just the body to make a dancer, is carried through today at BalletNova.  Kathryn was the recipient of the 2014 Arts Achievement Award by the Arts Council of Fairfax County.

A new scholarship has been created to further honor Kathryn and Kenneth Fredgren. The first winner of the first Fredgren Scholarship will be announced at the grand opening event. The Fredgren Scholarship is awarded to a BalletNova Conservatory Division student based on merit, talent, and the embodiment of BalletNova core values of respect, hard work, mutual support and a positive attitude.

WHAT?  We hope to add professional theater-quality lighting and curtains, from the internationally respected firm Barbizon Lighting.

WHY?  Imagine that you are with a small dance company based in Northern Virginia, and want to perform your new choreography. You look at performance spaces – and can’t find anything suitable!

WHERE? Artosphere? – the performing space is not conducive to dance.  Schlesinger Hall? – way too large and very expensive.  Theater on the Run? – stage is too small, and there’s no parking. You don’t really want to go to DC, but try to get into Dance Place– and they’re booked until next year.

So where can you go to dance?
