Ethan Brown hails from a true dancing family. His parents, Isabel and Kelly Brown, and sisters, Leslie Browne and Elizabeth Laing, were all members of American Ballet Theatre. After receiving his early training from his parents in Phoenix, he returned to his birthplace, New York City, to study at the School of American Ballet for a period of six years. He joined the corps de ballet of ABT in 1981 and was promoted to the rank of Soloist in 1988 before retiring from the company in July of 2004. During his 23 year career with ABT, Mr. Brown received critical acclaim dancing Principal roles in a variety of classical, contemporary and modern ballets, performing in nearly every ballet in ABT’s repertoire during his tenure. He has performed the works of, and has worked personally with, such choreographers as George Balanchine, Antony Tudor, Jerome Robbins, Agnes de Mille, Martha Graham, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Twyla Tharp, Jiri Kilian, Paul Taylor, Merce Cunningham, Roland Petit, Mark Morris, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Kevin McKenzie, John Neumier, Glen Tetley, Ben Stevenson, Eugene Loring, David Parsons, and James Kudelka. Mr. Brown established a successful career within ABT teaching Company Class, Studio Company Class, and ABT Open Classes. He has guest taught across the country and judged ballet competitions for Youth America Grand Prix. Currently, Mr. Brown teaches at the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School at American Ballet Theatre, Steps and The School at Steps in New York City.
